Well...

I've graduated. It's been three months today but it seems like a lot longer.

About a week after returning home from May Term (which probably deserves a post of it's own [but won't get it {yet}]) my brother and I drove out to the wilds of Virginia and took an overnight canoing trip on the Shenandoah River. It was really great except for the part where it rained all fucking night. And we, being the rugged outdoorsmen we are, had decided against bringing a tent in favor of a tarp and rope. It kept the torrent from hitting us directly but offered little protection from the as-yet-unidentified innumerably-legged beasts that crawled all over us throughout the night (seriously, fuck centipedes). I slept very little. It cleared up by morning, however, and we returned to the river in high spirits. We capsized once and I lost a shoe. It was fun, but I had the usual worrisome "oh-my-god-get-me-the-fuck-back-to-civilization-and-McDonald's" feelings I always get at the end of camping trips. However the storms, which started up again almost as soon as we got off the river, had knocked out power in a lot of the area, so we had to settle for Burger King. I bought a pair of slip-ons and some fireworks at a K-Mart.

Two days later we were in San Francisco. Picture time.

We traveled on Saturday and settled in that night. The next morning we woke up to the Haight Street Festival. Kind of like Mos Eisley, but hippies instead of Biths (a wretched hive of scum and villainy).

We went all over the place; stayed in hostels, bed-and-breakfasts, post-quake hotels, and beachside Comfort Inns. I watched as much Euro Cup as I could, including the Italy/France game while having a late breakfast in North Beach (the Italian district). We toured the Anchor Steam Brewery, the Korbel Champagne vineyard, the Beat Museum, and the Frieda Kahlo exhibit at the SFMOMA. I visited a Japanese (not gay) bathhouse and the only unionized, cooperatively-owned strip club in the world. We shopped at the SF and Berkeley locations of Amoeba Music. We saw "In Bruges" and "The Fall". I recommend them both.

I kept getting San Francisco-related songs stuck in my head. I didn't have any of them with me to listen to and thereby get out of my head. They included, but were not limited to:
"Grace Cathedral Hill" and "California One" by The Decemberists
"Moon Over Marin" by the Dead Kennedys
"San Francisco" by the Mamas and the Papas

After getting back from San Francisco it was time to get a job, which I eventually did at Plato's Diner in College Park, MD. I'm working nights and it's fucking nuts. Plato's will definitely get it's own entry at some point, but for now I'll just say that I've made about $2500 since the beginning of July.
